01 Jan Brok Weaver vs. Roosevelt Roberts on tap for May 30 UFC event
An exciting lightweight matchup between Brok Weaver and Roosevelt Roberts is in the works for the UFC’s return to action next weekend.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed the May 30 booking to MMA Fighting after Weaver revealed the news to Fight Bananas on Wednesday night.
UFC president Dana White is confident the event will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas but nothing has been made official as of yet.
Weaver made quite the impression on fans when he defeated Devyn Smith via unanimous decision this past summer on Dana White’s Contender Series. “Chata Tuska” made his long-awaited UFC debut at February’s UFC Rio Rancho event and took an illegal knee late from Rodrigo Vargas late in the first round. The 29-year-old picked up his first UFC win by result of disqualification and will look to steal the show in his sophomore appearance.
Roberts, also a Contender Series standout, has won three of his first four fights in the UFC. After picking up back-to-back wins over Darrell Horcher and Thomas Gifford to begin his promotional tenure, “GoGetta” suffered the first lost of his career via unanimous decision to Vinc Pichel in June 2019. The 26-year-old returned to the win column at UFC Moscow when he defeated Alexander Yakovlev in November.
The main event for next weekend’s card will feature former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley taking on surging contender Gilbert Burns.
