Combate Americas announces return with ‘fight series,’ beginning Aug. 28 with inaugural flyweight title main event

Combate Americas will return to action with a brand new interactive fight series.

Promotion officials confirmed to MMA Fighting that events will resume on Aug. 28 with a trio of Friday night shows. In addition, Combate Americas will host events on Sept. 11 and Sept. 25 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The fight cards will take place at a state-of-the-art closed set in Miami, Fla. and will air in English on AXS TV, and in Spanish on Univision and TUDN USA.

“As live sports return to television, Combate Americas is going to utilize this closed set studio series to deliver something that fans have never seen before and that will bring them closer than ever to the action from their screens,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren in a statement.

Headlining the Aug. 28 event will be an inaugural flyweight title fight between Juan Puerta and David Duran.

Puerta enters the fight on an impressive seven-fight winning streak. “Leadfeather” has competed under the Titan FC banner in his last five fights and captured the promotion’s 125-pound title. In his most recent bout, the American Top Team Atlanta standout defended his title with a submission win over Reynaldo Adolfo de los Santos at Titan FC 57 in October.

Duran is set to make his 15th professional appearance and looks to improve his Combate Americas record to 4-0. “The Farmer of Destruction” last competed in September and suffered a second-round submission loss to James Barnes at Bellator 228.

The live broadcasts of Combate Americas events will feature on-camera interactions with a host of different celebrities to be announced by the promotion soon. Broadcasts will also include fan polling and voting, as well as a social media ticker on-screen that will give fans the opportunity to view social media conversations about the event in real time.

In addition, stringent testing procedures for COVID-19 will be put in place. Combate Americas has hired a dedicated physician to administer COVID-19 testing of all athletes, officials and staff prior to the show and to supervise the health of all personnel on-site in Miami.

All Los Angeles, Calif.-based staff will test for COVID-19 prior to departing for Miami, utilizing the free testing recently made available to the public by Los Angeles County.

All athletes and their respective corner people as well as all Combate Americas staff and officials will undergo both COVID-19 and antibody testing in Miami, in accordance with the new Florida State Boxing Commission requirements.

The rest of the fights for the upcoming events are expected to be announced soon, along with additional dates to be added to the new fight series, the promotion states.
