01 Jan Dominick Reyes vs. Jiri Prochazka expected to headline UFC event on Feb. 27
Light heavyweights Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka are expected to clash in a main event fight currently scheduled for Feb. 27.
Multiple sources confirmed the matchup when speaking to MMA Fighting on Tuesday following an initial report via ESPN from UFC president Dana White.
The fight will serve as Reyes’ opportunity to bounce back after suffering consecutive losses in title bouts against Jon Jones and Jan Blachowicz. Prior to those fights, Reyes had gone undefeated in his career including six straight wins in the UFC.
After losing a razor-close decision to Jones in February, Reyes was offered the opportunity to battle for a vacant 205-pound belt in September at UFC 253. Reyes ultimately fell short that night after suffering a second round knockout from Blachowicz.
As for Prochazka, the former RIZIN champion is coming off a wild UFC debut where he knocked out former title contender Volkan Oezdemir in a back-and-forth slugfest.
Prochazka has won his past 11 fights in a row including notable victories over UFC veterans C.B. Dollaway and Fabio Maldonado as well as a knockout against “King” Mo Lawal.
The fight between Reyes and Prochazka is set to headline the event on Feb. 27 with a location for the card still to be determined.
