01 Jan Donald Trump shouts out Dana White, Colby Covington and UFC fighters attending Nevada rally
The UFC definitely has a fan in President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, Trump held an indoor rally in Henderson, Nev. as part of his 2020 re-election campaign and he noted several special guests in attendance including UFC president Dana White and several fighters sitting alongside him.
“He is so smart, so tough, so cunning,” Trump said about White during the rally. “He’s been a friend of mine for a long time. I’ve been a friend of his.
“He also loves his fighters. He wants to take care of his fighters and he brought some of them along, the best.”
Trump then went onto pay homage to the fighters in attendance — Colby Covington, Henry Cejudo and Justin Gaethje — while also promoting some of their upcoming fights. In fact, in a separate backstage video, Trump promised to watch the upcoming UFC Vegas 11 card where Covington will compete in the main event against Tyron Woodley.
“I’m going to be watching Colby, I’m a big fan of Colby,” Trump said in a video posted to Covington’s Instagram. “He is a winner, He is a champ and it’s going to be a great evening and a great fight.
“I wish him the best of luck. I’ve just seen him a lot and he is tough. Good luck champ.”

Trump then noted Cejudo as a two-division UFC champion while also mentioning Gaethje’s upcoming fight in October against reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“He said he’s going to knock him out,” Trump said when acknowledging Gaethje from the stage. “Well, we’re going to be watching. It’s right before the election, but I think I’m going to be watching it, OK? I’ll be watching. You better believe it. It’s going to be an incredible fight.”
Trump also mentioned Gaethje and Cejudo’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who was sitting in attendance with the fighters and White for the rally.
I had the great honor today to meet the president of the United States @realdonaldtrump Thank you for the kind words Mr. President. Also thank you @danawhite for the introduction. @richardgrenell without you none of this would have been possible ❤️
Of course, White has been a long-time supporter of Trump while giving speeches for him at the Republican National Convention in both 2016 and again in 2020. Covington has also gone out of his way to show constant support for Trump ahead of his fights and he even got to visit the White House where he met the president after his 2018 win over Rafael dos Anjos.
