01 Jan Gabriel Benitez vs. Omar Morales added to May 13 UFC card
Gabriel Benitez’s return to lightweight is set.
The UFC announced Tuesday that “Moggly” will face Omar Morales in a 155-pound bout at the UFC’s upcoming show on May 13. ESPN was first to report the booking.
This will be Benitez’s first lightweight appearance in the UFC. He competed at 155 pounds prior to appearing on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America as a featherweight. Benitez, 31, is 5-3 since making his UFC debut in November 2014 and sports a 21-7 record overall. In his previous outing, he lost by second-round TKO to Sodiq Yusuff, snapping a two-fight win streak.
Morales (9-0) made a successful UFC debut in December with a win over Dong Hyun Ma after earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last year. The 34-year-old Venezuelan has won seven of his pro bouts by knockout or submission.
The May 13 UFC show is set to take place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., and it will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira.
