01 Jan Morning Report: Dana White open to the idea of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s final fight being against Georges St-Pierre
Khabib Nurmagomedov may get his wish after all.
The UFC lightweight champion has not said much since his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, passed away recently. Speculation has ranged widely, from him never fighting again to him returning to business as usual following his mourning period. Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, recently told UFC Arabia that Nurmagomedov intends to honor his father’s wishes that he retire at 30-0. If that’s true, that means Nurmagomedov only has two fights left in his career, and the UFC is planning on making them count.
Speaking recently to ESPN, UFC President Dana White addressed the Khabib rumors, saying that, first things first, Khabib will defend his title against interim champion Justin Gaethje.
“I don’t know. Obviously he has got this Gaethje fight that is a done deal,” White said. “He is fighting Gaethje next. Then I don’t know who his last fight would be to make him 30. I don’t know. . . No clue, I mean listen, at the end of the day, the Conor McGregor fight – I know Conor has always wanted that fight since the last one, I mean that is the fight to make. I don’t know. Again, we will see how this all plays out. But, the Gaethje fight is absolutely, positively the next fight for him.”
Should Khabib get past Gaethje though, things get really interesting. The UFC lightweight champion is already arguably the greatest lightweight of all time, but his goals don’t stop there. Since joining the UFC in 2012, Khabib has been upfront with wanting to leave a lasting legacy in MMA. Part of that legacy, for Khabib, has always been a desire to fight Georges St-Pierre, something GSP was also interested in. Unfortunately, Dana White has never been a fan of the idea. But, given all Khabib has accomplished, White is now coming around to the idea of a Khabib vs. GSP superfight for the final fight of ‘The Eagle.’
“Sure. Yeah, it’s the last fight of his career,” White said. “The guys been great. He’s been great to the company, he’s been great for the sport, and, I like Khabib Nurmagomedov a lot. I would do anything Khabib wanted to do.”
St-Pierre retired from MMA last year, specifically citing the UFC’s disinterest in making a superfight with Nurmagomedov. Since then, the former two-division champion has been repeatedly asked about a comeback fight, and though he has said he’s happily retired, has also alluded to still being interested in a fight with Khabib.

Wow. This is terrifying.
Its been a long road back.. BUT never the less we are back! . . . . Feb 21st following my last fight I blacked out and collapsed smashing my face on a gravel road after scouting some land for hrs. Ended up in the ER for 5 days running numerous of test and blood work to figure out what happened. I seen a long list of different doctors, all but one said it was do to major concussion and lack of water and food after hiking through the woods for hrs. 1 doctor would tell me it was my heart… that my heart had stopped beating and it could happen again but next time in a fight!! Instantly my wifes face change and my emotions as well. I become angry with doctors bc i was scared internally. I would take many trips to NYU hospital meeting several different specialist during many more test and undergoing 2 very painful outpatient heart procedures to find more evidence to go along with that ONE doctors notes He had put a complete halt to my career as a fighter until it was clear my heart was safe to compete. And as of last monday night, I left hospital for the final time after my last procedure, with clearance note in hand, and the doctor telling me “Congrats Mr. Anderson, I can let you go back to beating people up!” . . . After my fight the commission/medics failed to do the proper after fight check up and I went back to living life as normal. And I paid a hefty price!! This whirlwind 5 months have put ALOT of things into perspective and as a veteran fighter who in the past has just fought with reckless abandoned with no care for rest and mental health long as I can keep fighting. I advise you other fighters to look after your health if you took some big shots to your head in a fight or practice, take the proper time to recover. It took me having my son sitting there looking at me in a hospital bed to realize there is real life after fighting and I want to be here to enjoy it. Fight smart, train smart, but recover and rest SMARTER!! Use your head while you still have the brains to do so. . Huge thank you to @taylorrpricee of the @ufc who was always on top of getting everything going EVERY STEP OF THE WAY! As well as @aliabdelaziz000 and Hunter Campbell #motivationmonday
This is also not good.
I’m done being silent. What happened is not ok. It’s never acceptable. It’s still happening everyday to others. It’s time for someone to speak up, to be brave and tell the truth. I’m ready to talk… who’s ready to listen? @joerogan @arielhelwani
Khabib is back to training.
