01 Jan Tecia Torres vs. Brianna Van Buren targeted for June 20 UFC event
The UFC’s schedule for the next month continues to take shape.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed that a women’s strawweight matchup between Tecia Torres and Brianna Van Buren is close to being finalized for June 20.
Van Buren also confirmed the bout via Twitter.
Torres, 30, will make her 12th UFC appearance following her run on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2014. “The Tiny Tornado” is hoping to bounce back after dropping four straight unanimous decisions to top-10 opposition—Jessica Andrade, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Weili Zhang and Marina Rodriguez. Torres’ last octagon win came at UFC 218 in December 2018 when she defeated Michelle Waterson.
Van Buren hopes to build upon the success of her promotional debut. “The Bull,” two months after becoming this inaugural Invicta FC Phoenix Rising tournament winner, defeated Livia Renata Souza via unanimous decision in July 2019. “The Bull” also holds wins over UFC veterans Juliana Lima, Kailin Curran and Jamie Moyle.
This is the fourth women’s fight set for the June 20 event, which includes Roxanne Modafferi vs. Lauren Murphy, Cortney Casey vs. Gillian Robertson, and Raquel Pennington vs. Marion Reneau.
