01 Jan Tecia Torres will now face LFA standout Sam Hughes at UFC 256
Tecia Torres has a new opponent just days away from UFC 256.
MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that Torres (11-5) will face UFC newcomer Sam Hughes (5-1) this Saturday in a strawweight bout at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, following an initial report by Best Fight Picks.
Hughes steps in on less than a week’s notice for Angela Hill, who withdrew from the bout with Torres after testing positive for COVID-19.
Torres recently snapped a four-fight skid with a unanimous decision win over Brianna Van Buren in June. Her run of losses came at the hands of the best at 115 pounds, including current UFC champion Zhang Weili, and former champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade.
Hughes is also coming off of an important win. After losing to Vanessa Demopoulos in a Legacy Fighting Alliance title fight in July via a spectacular triangle choke, Hughes rebounded with a highlight-reel choke of her own against Danielle Hindley at LFA 93 in October.
