This is the UFC 249 live blog for Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone, a welterweight clash for Saturday’s fight card at VyStar Veteran’s Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla.
Former UFC lightweight champion Pettis has lost three of his past four fights, while Cerrone has lost three straight fights.
Pettis defeated Cerrone via first-round KO in their previous meeting at UFC on FOX 13 on Jan. 26, 2013.

Round 1: Keith Peterson is the third man in the cage for the preliminary main event. Cerrone comes out and takes the center of the cage with Pettis showing a lot of movement on the outside. There’s a bit of a feeling out process early. Cerrone snatches a single but Pettis defends quickly and back to circling. Cerrone lands a good leg kick and Pettis lands a high glancing high kick. Cerrone has landed a few good punches and uses them to get a clinch on Pettis but the two separate and now Pettis is the one coming forward. Pettis lands a jumping switch kick to the head but Cerrone drives through and gets the takedown, taking side control. Pettis scrambles and the two are now in Ali-Inoki position until Pettis stands up. Cerrone lands a nice one-two. Cowboy lands a good body shot but Pettis lands a BIG right hand that stops Cerrone in his tracks and swell’s Cowboy’s eye. The round ends without anything else significant happening.

Round 2: Pettis gets the round started early wiith a jumping attack and a right hand that stings Cerrone. Pettis is not pressing the action on Cerrone who is looking to counnter as. Petttis steps in. Cerrone lands a good left and Pettis misses his counter attack. Cerrone lunges in and Pettis stings Cowboy with a big left hand. Pettis goes for a hook kick that misses. Low kick from Cerrone lands and he just avoids a spinning backfist from Pettis. Cerrone counters a jumping knee from Pettis and now Showtime iis bleeding. Pettis attempts another jumping switchkick and misses. Cerrone charges in and eats a good counter left for his trouble. Both men exchange leg kicks. Cerribe lands a good body kick and Pettis responds in kind. Then lands another. Cerrone rushes in for a takedown and trips Pettis to the floor but Pettis gets his back to the fence and stands. Cerrone goes for a head kick that misses. Pettis lands a big left hook to the body. Spinning back kick to the body from Pettis and Duke Roufus is now calling for more body attacks. Cerrone ducks in and Pettis lands a short right as the round ends.

Round 3: Cerrone opens the round with a body kick and an attempted takedown which is shucked off. Cerrone is throwing with more combinations but Pettis’ shots seem to have the edge in power. Pettis lunges in and Cerrone ducks under for a takedown but Pettis fights it off. PEttis is pressing the action now and lands a good left. BIG kick to the body from Pettis but Cerrone pushes through and forces a clinch. Cowboy separates with a nice knee. Pettis fakes a kick to the body and goes high but it misses. Cowboy lands a good low kick. Cerrone steps in and gets punches in the eye and makes an audible shout, thinking it is a poke. Pettis surges forward and now they are scrapping. Pettis glances a high. Cerrone lands a CLEAN head kick to Pettis who walks right through it incredibly! That was flush and Pettis is no worse for wear. Pettis lands a big counter left. Cerrone misses a takedown and fires off a number of kicks. A wild exchange with 10 seconds left! Nothing much lands but a fun scrap. The replay shows that Pettis did in fact poke Cerrone in the eye.
