UFC 255 video: Joaquin Buckley picks up another highlight-reel knockout by stopping Jordan Wright

Joaquin Buckley didn’t need any spinning stuff to stop Jordan Wright – just heavy hands to add another clip to his highlight reel on Saturday at UFC 255.

Buckley hurt Wright at the end of the first round of their preliminary-card bout and finished the job 18 seconds into the second round for his second consecutive knockout win.

A left hook took Wright off his feet, and a second shot clipped him on the way down as referee Herb Dean moved in to wave off the fight.

Check out the finish.

Wright initially availed himself well against Buckley, covering up as his opponent threw big bombs in close. “The Beverly Hills Ninja” even managed to time a few well-placed counters as Buckley’s wide hooks left him exposed. Neither fighter got too creative with attacks, preferring to face each other rather than try anything too flashy.

Rather than go swing immediately for the bleachers, Buckley tied up Wright to sap some strength before turning up the tempo with his striking. At the end of the opening frame, he found his way in with series of hooks that had Wright diving for a takedown. Were there a few more seconds on the clock, Wright likely wouldn’t have survived.

When the second frame got underway, though, it was clear Wright hadn’t fully cleared his head, and he moved right into the path of the punch that took him off his feet. It was his first loss as a professional.

Buckley, meanwhile, picked up his second UFC win after a debut setback against Kevin Holland. Afterward, he got heated as he called for a fight with online rival James Krause, whom he refused to name, on Jan. 23.
