01 Jan UFC on ESPN 8 medical suspensions: Miguel Baeza, Giga Chikadze among fighters facing potential six-month layoff
There were quite a few memorable battles at UFC on ESPN 8 this past weekend, but it appears the majority of the fighters on the card largely walked away unscathed.
On Monday, the Florida State Boxing Commission released the medical suspensions for the card with only four athletes staring down a potential six-month layoff due to injuries sustained during the card.
Welterweight prospect Miguel Baeza leads that list with a 180-day suspension (six months) following his second round TKO against Matt Brown in the featured preliminary bout.
Featherweights Giga Chikadze and Irwin Rivera both also face a potential 180-day suspension after they went to war for three rounds on the preliminary card from Jacksonville, Fla.
Finally, Mara Romero Borella is looking at a potential six-month layoff after she suffered a brutal armbar submission loss in her flyweight fight against Cortney Casey.
Outside of those four fighters, nobody competing at UFC on ESPN 8 will face more than 60 days off after Saturday night’s event.
It also must be noted that the fighters who are facing longer suspensions can receive medical clearance by a physician as noted by the commission.
